BEYOND WALLS: A Film Screening

10/12/2023 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM CT

Description

Beyond Walls is a compilation of five short films that explore the possibilities of prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition. In sharing the stories of individuals resisting the PIC, these works demonstrate the ways in which community care can lead to restorative justice. They highlight the generational harm caused by prison systems and the importance of human relationships in creating a more just world. In addition to imagining what abolition could look like, the Beyond Walls series also offers concrete tools for creating a police- and prison-free society.

Join us for this public screening! Runtime is 73 minutes, and light refreshments will be provided. The screening will be followed by a group discussion, where folks can learn about how to get involved in community efforts around PIC abolition.

This event is in-person at the East Side Freedom Library. We ask that folks mask up for the safety of all community members. Masks will also be available on site.

Presented in partnership with Working Films.
